Scarlett Johansson (born November 22 1984 New York City New York, U.S.) American singer and actress whose dramatic versatility earned her praise across many genres from period drama to thrillers and action. Johansson has a father who is a filmmaker and architect. She was raised by New York City. The twin brothers Hunter as well as her mother were the youngest siblings. She began to develop an interest in acting from a very young age auditioning for commercials by the age of seven. She was enrolled at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute shortly after and was a student at the Professional Children's School, Manhattan to continue her training. She made her debut as an actress on film in North (1994) aged nine. When she was eight years old, she starred alongside Ethan Hawke on Off-Broadway in Sophistry. Johansson made her debut as a character in Just Cause, but she first made an appearance in Manny & Lo, a film about siblings left behind by their parents who escape. The Horse Whisperer (2000), in which she played a teenager with a deformity due to an accident garnered the film critical acclaim. After that, in Ghost World 2001 (as the cynical teenage outcast Rebecca), Johansson gained the attention of a whole new generation. Like many other actresses starting out, she chose to refine her art in the realm of theatre. As she was making her stage debut with Wildflower she would also work with various theatre projects in the USA. She studied at the Stonestreet Studios Conservatory of the New York University Tisch School of the Arts.
